What's the Story?

This segment is a dedication to a WWII veteran, my Dad.  He has one amazing story yet… there have been threats against him recently by our medical care system.  He has Medicare and Veterans benefits, but is that enough to cover the high cost of “Medical Care”? It is not. I guess he needs to buy a Medicare Supplement plan… and so will you.

My point is to bring awareness to the high cost of medical care.  No matter how much insurance we layer on,  it will not make medical care affordable unless we address the underlying causes.  I’m not saying we should not add coverage but what I am saying, it will NOT take care of our issues. If you are one of those who thinks that it will, sorry. The drug companies, hospitals, medical care professionals want more insurance because it masks the real cost. They would take a big pay cut without it.

Make no mistake, I’m not talking about the cost of health “insurance”, often confused with the term health care.

The reason I am telling this amazing veteran’s story starting with WWII in Germany fighting against one of the world’s greatest threats we have ever faced is he and many other are our heroes. Yet, these vets face medical costs they are unable to pay. I believe we should take care of them and not allow that to bring them to homelessness or leaving the country they fought for. We should all be ashamed.

I’m speaking out!  Here is what has happened since my dad’s hospitalization.

The VA denied picking up the co-payment for the hospitalization or anything else because they do not believe it was an emergency treatment. The VA will allow benefits in certain situations even if non-service related if the vet did not have a VA facility near. This vet did not and it would have put him in jeopardy. An appeal is pending.

Yuma Regional Medical Center balance at $1,068.00 for the inpatient care, which is now at Brown’s Collection Agency Yuma, AZ  888-646-8600 for collections.

“Jennifer Taylor”, collection agent, called my dad to collect. Dad asked her to call me, his daughter. He told her he was out of the country. She then told him he can not have Medicare and be out of the country. She threatened to contact Medicare and have it taken away. She never did call me.

Does he deserve treatment like this? I’ve asked him to not try to pay this bill. He has always paid his bills, but now he has little to live on and no increase in Medicare benefits, decreasing VA disability, and higher out-of-pocket costs for medical care. They have reached his limit. Congratulations!

I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to stop exposing all of this because the HIGH COST of medical care is never-ending and NO ONE is talking about it.  America can not pay its debts now…. medical care is not free, it never will be. Medical care will not be “deficit  neutral”. —- That means you pay.

Call your representative! Also take a look at “Once Upon A Time In War: The 99th Division in World War II,” published by the University of Oklahoma Press. Check the reviews on Amazon.com. This book, based on interviews with more than 360 v ets of the 99th, will give you a vivid sense of what it was like to be a combat infantryman in the 99th Division.

Thank you. I will call and I’ll check out the book. It’s been a real trip listening to my Dad open up for the first time ever. It’s a purge he probably needed for a long time. Thanks for the comment and time to review my rant.
